The trend of Covid-19 cases is now starting to decline but the pandemic is not over yet.The public is advised to continue to adhere to health protocols, such as wearing masks and washing hands.Washing hands is a very easy activity but is still often underestimated by the community, even though maintaining hand hygiene is very important during this pandemic.Hands are very easily contaminated because they often come into direct contact with objects that are exposed to droplets or droplets of microorganisms caused by coughing and sneezing. The right time to wash hands according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia is before and after eating, after urinating or defecating, after doing activities. The World Health Organization or WHO recommends washing hands with soap, but not all places provide facilities for washing hands with soap. One of the actions that can be taken is to use hand sanitizer to maintain hand hygiene.Hand sanitizer is very practical because it can be carried anywhere. The composition contained in the hand sanitizer is quite simple and can be found at chemical stores or in market places so that people can also make their own hand sanitizers at home.In the context of Community Service by Bhaktiku Negeri Students (PMM) Wave 6, pharmacy students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) who are members of group 16 held assistance to the community to make simple hand sanitizers on Wednesday (14/09/2022).This Community Service Activity by Students (PMM) is to apply the Downstreaming of Research results from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).Devina Kesuma Wardhani and Syafira Verenaneedha Tsaniya as group representatives in delivering the material and accompanying the activity Ririn Harini, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep.as a field supervisor. The activity lasted for 2 hours starting at 09.00 WIB in the hall of SDN 1 Ngadirejo. Also attending were the guardians of SDN 1 Ngadirejo students as representatives of the Ngadirejo Village community and village health cadres. The activity began with a presentation of the material tools and procedures that will be used in making hand sanitizers delivered by Devina. Then continued direct assistance with 6 representatives as an example."The procedures we teach are in accordance with WHO, so the ingredients are also in accordance with WHO standards."Sapphire said. The ingredients used to make 1 liter hand sanitizer are 416.5 ml of 96% ethanol, 20.85 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 7.25 ml of 98% glycerol, up to 1 liter of distilled water. The uses of each ingredient are as follows, 96% ethanol is very effective for killing disease-causing microorganisms, 3% hydrogen peroxide can be used as an antiseptic, 98% glycerol has a function to moisturize the palms of the hands, and aquadest is useful for dissolving ingredients in the hand-making process. sanitizers. The tools needed to make hand sanitizers are 500 ml beaker glass, measuring cup, stirring rod, plastic funnel, and a bottle to put the hand sanitizer that has been made. The procedure for making hand sanitizer is to put 416.5 ml of 96% ethanol into a 500 ml glass beaker. Then 20.85 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide was added to the beaker glass containing the ethanol using a measuring cup. Then 7.25 ml of 98% glycerol and water up to 500 ml were added, stirred until homogeneous using a stirring rod. After all the ingredients are mixed, they can be transferred to a spray bottle, on this occasion we use the 60ml size.Hand Sanitizer is ready to use.Figure 2. Group photo after making hand sanitizer (Photo by: Vanessya Oscar Permatasari ) Although the use of hand sanitizers is very practical, WHO recommends using hand sanitizers only as an alternative when access to washing hands with soap is difficult to find.In using hand sanitizer, it must always be followed by washing hands with soap and running water, so that efforts to maintain hand hygiene and prevent disease are maximized. This activity was enthusiastically welcomed by the parents. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of the parents when asked to come forward as an example during the making. The school also fully supports it because it is considered very useful, especially during the pandemic that has not ended like now."We hope that this little knowledge that we can convey can be useful for the village community," said Devina,"We also hope that with this assistance the community can develop hand sanitizer business products so that they can improve the economy in Ngadirejo Village."Added Sapphire. The activity ended exactly at 11.00 and went smoothly without any significant problems.Syafira and Devina also feel happy to be able to share the knowledge gained on campus and hope that it can be useful for the community.
