By: Supreme GRAND Bishop Dr. Keenan Cofield/June 12, 2020 Baltimore, MD

A 6 month long investigation has revealed our worse fears what we knew was occurring in Prince George’s County, MD, with massive employee and officials cover-ups and conspiracies involving the “Pay to Play” rental license scam that has been going on in Prince George’s County, Maryland for many years.

Prince George’s County, MD ordinance and regulations require any landlord who wishes to rent his or her property to first, apply online, obtain a required FULL inspection the property to be licensed first, then the inspector and Director of DPIE signs your landlords license.

Thousands of Renters in Prince George’s County, MD Living in Illegal “Unlicensed” Properties Thousands Without Inspections

We found thousands of cases and licensing applications, whereas DPIE has been illegally issuing landlords permits, not licenses to landlords without the required property inspections. The law says that a landlord cannot engage in the business of renting property without first, making application, inspection and if your property passes inspection you are issued a license, not permit or temporary permits. Prince George’s County regulations do not authorize the issuance of permits or temporary permits in the language of the county codes and regulations. However, we have located and found hundreds of applications approved by DPIE officials, without any home required inspections done. We have further found thousands of rental properties in Prince George’s County that no rental license was issued and no inspections done as required by law.

If you are a renter in Prince George’s County, I highly recommend you contact DPIE to determine whether the landlord has a license, not permit or temporary permits that have been illegally issued, without inspections.

Prince George’ County Landlords not Issuing Receipts to Renters Of Pay with Cash or Certified Funds for Security Deposit and Monthly Rent Payments

Maryland State law requires all landlords to issue a receipt to any renter when they pay with cash or certified funds for the initial Security Deposit and monthly rent payments. When a landlord fails to give a receipt when the renter pays in both methods, the renter can take the landlord to court and get all that money back. If you have been a victim of this fraud scheme by thousands of landlords, consult with an attorney or legal aid. Tens of thousands of renters are victim to the scam statewide. Talk to a lawyer!
